On 25 February, another four COVID-19 patients in Tianjin were discharged from Haihe Hospital after recovery, including a 90-year-old man who has recovered in only six days, bringing the total of cured cases in the city to 91.

According to Li Jian, a doctor of the medical team in Haihe Hospital from Tianjin First Central Hospital and chief physician of ICU of Tianjin First Central Hospital, the 90-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital on 19 February with good condition. The clinical classification was common, but the comprehensive classification was severe in view of his age. The man had no history of basic diseases, the oxygenation index and blood oxygen saturation level were not low, and the general condition was good. Doctors and nurses thus treated him with antiviral therapy and traditional Chinese medicine, and the patient recovered quickly. In conformity with the discharge standards, they carried out CT scans, nucleic acid tests and other examinations again for him, and the patient met all the standards.

The old man was a close contact of some confirmed cases, and his family members are receiving treatment in the hospital as well. To reassure him, doctors and nurses kept telling him about the treatment of his family members. Besides, the old man was very optimistic and was able to take care of himself. He actively cooperated and communicated with the doctors and nurses in receiving treatment.

On the afternoon of 25 February, the old man, accompanied by his doctors and nurses, walked out of the isolation ward. He was very talkative and expressed his gratitude to them, adding that if they go to Baodi, they are welcome to visit him. “I’m old. I’ve been treated very well,” he said.

When talking about his optimism, the old man amused everyone, “How could I have lived this long if I were not so optimistic?”

Doctors and nurses feel very happy to have successfully treated such an elderly patient. “With the support of Tianjin First Central Hospital and Haihe Hospital we have carried out our work successfully, and I believe that with our joint efforts, more COVID-19 patients will be cured,” said Li.
