Tianjin Health QR Code “speeds up” resumption of work for enterprises

At nearly 8: 00, March 14, workers who had returned to their jobs showed up in succession in the front of the factory of Tianjin Breakthrough Electrical Production Base. Yang Zhaojie, an assembly operator, habitually took out her cell phone, showed her green health code to the guard and had her body temperature tested. After entering the factory, she started to put on her working uniform and got ready for a busy day.

“Before that, we had to fill in personal information with a pen on the paper at the gate of the factory, including name, phone number, address, ID, recently visited places, body temperature and so on. As there were many items to fill in, it took a lot of time for us to fill in one by one,” Yang told the reporter, adding that in response to the epidemic prevention and control, the factory has carried out strict inspection for employees since the resumption of production. The longest time she waited at the gate was nearly 20 minutes, and even there was a long line of 50 people. She understands, of course, that this is not only to ensure the safety of production in the factory, but also to be responsible for every employee. However, filling in information with a pen is troublesome, time-consuming and rather inconvenient.

“Our company is among the first batch of enterprises in the High-tech Zone to resume work and production. What we produce now are mainly terminal precision power distribution products for the data center. Our first order after the resumption of work needed to be ‘delivered urgently’, which required us to quickly customize a batch of power distribution products for the Data Center in Beijing Xiaotangshan Hospital within two days. That was in early February, when there were only a dozen of employees in our factory, and everyone was working around the clock. Therefore, at that critical moment, every minute and second of production time was precious,” Chen Yonghuan, general manager of Tianjin Breakthrough Electrical Technology Co., Ltd., said, considering that if only there was a way to make registration easier.

Chen's problem is also common to many enterprises in the city. On February 29, Tianjin launched the "Health QR Code" for epidemic prevention and control and resumption of work throughout the city, which is a digital pass that facilitates local people’s work, life and business. The health status of people can be distinguished with three colored codes—green, orange and red. Among them, the green code means the holder’s body temperature is normal and thus is allowed to resume work.

“The ‘Health QR Code’ is not only convenient for employees to travel, but also helpful for us to master their health status and the health status of those returning to Tianjin from other places more promptly so as to be ready for response,” Chu Yan, head of the fourth group of epidemic prevention and control team stationed in enterprises in the High-tech Zone, said, adding that after the city launched the “Health QR Code”, enterprises in the Zone were immediately informed of this measure. The team not only created and printed tips about the “Health QR Code” for the enterprises, but also actively provided operational guidance to employees to expand the use of the Code. Three staff members in Chu’s group explained policies for 16 enterprises under its jurisdiction one by one and instructed them to post notices, policy Q&A and other materials in prominent positions at the gate of the enterprises. After two weeks of hard work, the effect has been gradually showcased.

“Our job is to make as many employees as possible aware of the convenience of the ‘Health QR Code’. At present, more than 80% of enterprises under our jurisdiction have used the ‘Health QR Code’ as a pass for employees to enter and exit,” Chu continued.

With the ‘Health QR Code’, Yang doesn't have to wait at the gate of the factory when he goes to work every morning. She just needs to take out her cell phone and show the code to the guard. “It’s very convenient. With the ‘Health QR Code’, we can enter the factory in a second!” Yang said.

Currently, on-job employees of Tianjin Breakthrough Electrical Technology Co., Ltd. have all applied for the “Health QR Code”. The production capacity of the enterprise has returned to about 85% of the normal level, and it is expected that 100% of its employees will return to their posts by the end of this month. The “Health QR Code” has “pressed the accelerator key” for the resumption of work of enterprises.
